From Our Pastor Father Dan…
Next weekend, we welcome
Sr. Catherine Anne, OP, who will speak at all Masses
about the Mission work of the Church. Sister is
one of four Springfield Dominicans who in 1965 went to
Peru to assist the Precious Blood Fathers in their vast
work. In 1984, her labors found her in the Andes
Mountains. Since 1992, on her return from foreign
mission work, sister has been entrenched in parish
ministry and for the past nine years, has taught at
Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights.
Sister will share
with us a message of hope in our work in foreign
missions. She will also ask our support in the annual
summer mission appeal. If you are a registered
parishioner, then you have an envelope for this cause;
kindly bring it next week. There are also envelopes in
the pews for this cause. Thanks in advance for
your welcome to Sr. Catherine Anne next week, and for
your generosity to our mission outreach.
Wedding season is
upon us, and we have three weddings next weekend. Let
us pray for the many young people who will be getting
married here at Nativity this season. Their names are
published regularly in the “Wedding Banns” section of
the bulletin.
We have been
fielding some phone calls in the rectory regarding
Religious Education (CCD). Registration, open to
registered and practicing parishioners only, will be
held next month, and classes (Tuesday evenings,
6:00-7:30) will begin in September. Please continue to
watch the bulletin for updates.
The Rite of
Christian Initiation of Adults (or RCIA) is a
program offered to people who are converting to
Catholicism or who consider themselves Catholic though
they never received the sacraments of Communion and/or
Confirmation. We will be starting the new RCIA cycle on
Thursday evening, September 11 and we’ll
meet every other Thursday evening thereafter
through Easter. If you (or someone you know) are
interested in receiving the sacraments of baptism,
Communion and/or confirmation, please see Deacon Henry
or me. More information will be available in coming
weeks’ bulletins.
UPDATE:
We continue to wait for permits from the city for
continued improvements to the church hall. As
soon as the permitting process is complete, work can
begin! We’ll be expanding the kitchen and improving
electrical service, plumbing and fire safety.
See you at Adoration/Benediction
this Friday (6:00 – 7:00 p.m. in church). Come
offer an hour of silent prayer for our soldiers … for an
end to terrorism … for a return to peace in our world …
for an end to abortion . . . for an unemployed friend …
for your mother’s or father’s or child’s health …
whatever!
In Closing thank you for your interest in
Nativity of Our Lord Parish and
I am truly grateful to Mr. Paul Piraino, a member of
this great parish, for making this website a reality.
Paul's dedication and generosity are remarkable gifts.
As you can see, his work is top-notch. And his
turnaround time is incredibly fast. I would ask that you
please keep him and his business,
Piraino Enterprises, in mind should you or your
business need
computer services of any type.
Respectfully,
Father Dan Brandt
